New Hood: Lyndon Hood: Real Life Easter Eggs

Computer programmers often leave 'Easter Eggs' in software - special features or surprises that can be revealed by some secret combination of events. Some early Unix systems, for example, responded to the command "make love" with "not war?". More recently, the 1997 version of Excel contained a flight simulator. And then there's the 'Exploding Lara Croft' trick. In honour of the recent holy season, I present the list of little-know local easter eggs.

I know what you're all thinking.

"Why is that Society for the Promotion of Community Standards release at the top of Scoop's 'Most Read' table?"

That's what you're thinking.

It might help to know the release is called "Chief Censor Refuses to Reclassify Sex Video".

It's like this...

The Society had requested that a certain video, 'Lesbian Cops', involving women, and police uniforms, and batons and ... so on ... be reclassified in the wake of public outrage over police and batons and ... stuff.

And because it's porn.

So presumably 'reclassified' would be banned rather than rated PG. This is, after all, the same people whose response to revelations about a certain infamous homemade sex tape was to ask for it to be pulled in for classification. I'm pretty sure that precident would rather be left to lie both by the censor and by 'home entertainment hobbyists' everywhere.

This release covers the two issues at once. If you know what I mean.

I digress.

It seems something – perhaps SPCS Secretary David Lane's habit of explaining in great detail the sordid contents of the pornography he is advertising objecting to – brought this release to the attention of sex blog Fleshbot [Link is not safe for work. Did you guess?]. Fleshbot wants to have the NZ Chief Censor's job.

So the net result is hundreds of extra people thinking, "Where can I get a copy of this video?"

Where would we be without the SPCS?
