I was so struck by the image Clair Browning launched this Pundit post with I couldn't resist doing my own version. I call it, "Balancing our Environmental Responsibilities with our Economic Opportunities".

I'll keep it here for the moment, along with this David Garrett picture, the time of which has, in fact, come, but which remains a bridge too far for the Scoop front page.

See also the PAS thread, which includes this thoughful suggestion.
Also, I'd just like to note Tangerinegate, complete with Hong Kong new animation goodness. See the Wiki page before it's deleted.

The first is that if you're looking for a Miss Muffet costume that isn't a sexy Bo-Peep outfit, you'll be looking pretty (pun observed-and-not-removed) hard.
The other would be that nursery rhymes are be gothically inspiring.

I may as well add that Lew called me "dependably excellent" earlier.
Don't mind me - just using a post about collages as a scrapbook.

This is about the first time, looking through the logs, that I've particularly noted referrers from Google images. Perhaps this is because some of them were odd. Searches for "things" or "do", for example (words from the title of the column). I was on the first page of results for both at the time. The "do" searcher came from Google Hungary or Czechoslovakia - whichever language it is, I worry about what "do" means.
That one was also mentioned on the radio in a rather flattering comment from Jim Mora on the ability of jokes or cartoons to sum up issues. I think he also read the wheel as a dart board - I always enjoy it when people appreciate aspects of my work I didn't put in deliberately.
And then this one

... made the TV news (wait for the end). I should here mention Mr Kevin List for proposing I make a "picture of John Key morphing into Michael Cullen" and that I be quick about it. I also have the impression I owe someone a beer for the on-the-tele thing.
Famous.
Although not in a way that mentions my name at any stage.

In other news, I was waiting for last week's general debate to come up on the Hansard website so I could confirm attribution for this quote:
He has been on the Māori Affairs Committee since 2002 and knew the real record, but he said that none the less, because that is the party line that the Goebbels department on the ninth floor instructed him to give.It was, indeed, Christopher "Godwin" Finlayson.

I've been reading Mark Twain. The compilation has some "opening remarks" from Kurt Vonnegut at the start of it - I believe they were published when he was alive but given it refers to a couple of pieces that aren't in the compilation it doesn't seem to have been written specially. Vonnegut notes a slew of US satirists who started in the newspapers with a juicy quote I add here when I have the volume to hand.
[Viz:
So many of America's funniest writers have come up through newspapers [he rolls off a few names] that it may be correct to think of them as editorial writers gone berserk. He doesn't specifically mention Ambrose Bierce, more or less comptemporary to Twain. But then, Bierce probably didn't crack - I gather he was like that the whole time.]
It is as through they had written solemnly and respectfully about mankind's problems year after year. And then, one day, they couldn't stand it any more. Nothing would do but that they jeer at their luckless readers for belonging to such a stupid and vain and unlucky and greedy species.
Hi ho.
Anyhow, in wondering if this reading would influence my output it did strike me that if Tom Sawyer et al were around today the would be tagging something. When I put this idea to the office it was pointed out that Tom Sawyer would have everyone else tagging things for him.

For what it's worth, this morning I remembered a further explanation I meant to include for the term 'grandparenting': "the way, at this rate, those who are currently children will be grandparents before a proper scheme gets implemented".
So, there you go. Director's cut.
Elsewhere - as you may have read in places with more punch than here - The Dim-Post gets a room.

New Hood: Moorephing
Made, I should say, on a PC using the reasonably useful, fun and free WinMorph. The last Helen Clark was two morphs spliced together with CombiMovie (which may be responsible for slightly inconsistent playback in Quicktime). Also among the various other ultimately redundant software I downloaded during days of on-and-off trying make things work was the useful set of command-line flash tools swftools.
Overall if the videos don't play, I blame Microsoft*. And be grateful. At one pooint they may have crashed your browser.
* I will accept offers of more effective code, but I will still blame Microsoft for making it necessary.
